A wonderful introduction for children to the world of ballet, especially designed for ages four through six. It contains all the aspects of a formal ballet class including a barre warm-up, stretches, center practive and across the floor combinations. All of the movements are explained step-by-step, followed by a performance of the steps by renowned dance teacher Rosemary Boross and her beginning pre-school students.
Budding ballerinas ages 4 to 6 receive a thorough introduction to ballet at the tutelage of "Miss Rosemary" Boross in this 36-minute video. The program features Rosemary Boross, a student helper, and a small class of preschool age dancers as they explore the basics of warming up at the barre, stretching, center work, dancing across the floor, and revérénce. Miss Rosemary first describes and demonstrates steps like plié, tendu, suté, chassé, and grande jeté, then leads her class through each step to the accompaniment of original piano music by Bruce Stephen Foster. Because the program covers a large variety of steps and progresses fairly quickly, it is most effective when used in conjunction with enrollment in an introductory ballet class. Alternately, young dancers may want to view the video in short segments, then follow with ample practice time to ensure the correct execution of each individual step. --Tami Horiuchi

My 2.5 year old daugher enjoyed this video for the most part. She's just starting to show an interest in dance and I wanted to test her out with a video. At the beginning they were explaining how to warm up. This was slow for her and she lost interest quickly. She simply wanted to start dancing and standing at a 'bar' doing warm ups was not her idea of a good time. Once the dancers on the video got moving, we were good to go. She danced and danced and was thrilled. She especially enjoyed the other little dancers in their outfits.
My 3-year-old is ballet crazy, but this DVD completely bored her. She left after about 5 minutes. It is so poorly produced, it looks like a bad home video - bad lighting, really boring message, etc. It moves very slowly, not much action or pacing, so it just bores the kids. Sadly, there are not a lot of other options out there, but this is not worth your money.
My 4 years old niece who loves to dance, but not ready for a class yet, likes to watch this DVD and follow the basic ballet steps. This is good for kids who want to start ballet at home.
I grew up dancing and I really enjoyed this dvd for my 3 year old daughter. It gives some basic lessons to get the little one's started and it's explained nicely as well. I give a thumbs up to recommending this dvd.
We were looking for something a little more fun than this video. This is a very serious ballet lesson. If that's what you are looking for, you will love it. We were looking for something a little less formal and more fun.
